Player ID: Meddy
Notable previous player roles: Dmitry Medvedev (2010 round) Avigdor Lieberman (2010 round) Deepak Kapoor (first 2010 round) Dragan Todorovic (same)

Nation #1: United States of America
Character Name: Richard Nixon
Powerbases (Pick Three): Republican Party, Middle Class, Defense Hawks (I haven't found the States' power bases, they weren't with the others when I checked, so feel free to correct these if I'm mistaken)
200 word explanation of your plans: Nixon has come into office on the promise to unite the divided nation. To do this, he plans to continue discrediting the hippie counterculture officially through speeches and propaganda while also adopting a third way on issues such as desegregation designed to appeal to both the South, currently breaking free of it's traditional Democratic leanings, and to moderates across the nation. Regarding Vietnam, Nixon plans to begin replacing American troops with Vietnamese ones and draw down conscription numbers across the nation. He also hopes to achieve a peace with North Vietnam - failing that, he plans to bomb Vietcong positions and try to find their headquarters to neutralize them as a threat to US forces.
Nixon also plans to begin engaging the PRC to profit from the divide between the PRC and the USSR, come to some sort of nuclear arrangement with the Soviets (think SALT I), continue to annoy Cuba and support regimes across South America, and shift away from giving direct combat assistance to allies in the Middle East, relying instead on defensive assistance.

Notable previous player roles: Xi Jinping, Hu Jintao, Marko Ramius, Qpawn Conflict, Iajuddin Ahmed

Nation #1: United Kingdom
Character Name: Harold Wilson
Powerbases (Pick Three): Labour, Unions, Lower Class
200 word explanation of your plans: Harold Wilson has already been in power for four years prior to 1969. As Wilson I will aim to continue his economic policies, to promote growth in the UK economy and tackle the mounting industrial action through a combination of negotiation and confrontation. Social reforms such as the Divorce Reform Act will be put to the Commons during 1969, as will reforms on the Social Services acts. Externally I will aim to join the European Union in a manner similar to the actions the real UK took, if I can get past whoever is in charge of France that is. I will aim to keep the UK out of the Vietnam war and reshuffle the priorities of UK bases abroad which have been neglected, closing some and putting improvements into others. In Africa the UK government will seek to negotiate with Ian Smith on the independence of Rhodesia, but will keep up the Beira patrol and try to topple the Rhodesian government through economic sanctions rather than military force.

1st Choice: The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics
Name:Petr Lyakhov
Notable Previous Characters: Petr Lyakhov (USSR, ’45 Round), Esteban Almada Flores and Fernando Palomeque (Río De La Plata, ’84 Twist Round), Antoine-Napoléon Bonaparte (France, 2010 Round)
Powerbases: Communist Party (Tradition), State Security/Intelligence, Lower Class
200 Word Explanation Of Plans:

I will review the progress of the Kosgyin Reform of 1965, but avoid further market concessions. I would instead try to boost productivity in the USSR through bonuses and incentives for workers. I will look to placate the dominant hardliners, but make necessary reforms in corruption controls, which will be a key part of my plan to boost productivity. I will use the KGB to disrupt American economic interests abroad, but avoid direct conflict so as to prevent open war. Instead, I will look to get them bogged down with problems elsewhere, as well as Vietnam. I will place emphasis on quality over quantity in military research and production, and avoid excessive pumping of funds into the military so I can invest in economic development and science. I will look to heal the Sino-Soviet split, but this is subject to the willingness of the Chinese regime. I will look to implement a Marshall Plan-style scheme for the Warsaw Pact. I also want to portray the USSR as a reasonable and honourable nation on the world stage and rehabilitate international image of USSR in order to both act as a screen for any covert or underhand activities, and avoid unnecessary direct conflict with USA that could risk open war.

Notable previous player roles: Vietnam, Zimbabwe, Spain and various mod roles e.g East Assistant

Nation #1: Iran
Character Name: Mohammad Reza Pahlavi
Powerbases (Pick Three): State Security, Military, USA
200 word explanation of your plans: Well I intend to expand research programmes with dedicated government laboratories. I'd also like to further modernize infrastructure development for example rolling out telephone lines to every house and business in the country and a fully tarmacked and expanded road network across the country with bigger motorway type links between major cities. There is also the prospect of electrified trains that I might like to look into and might reduce the overall running costs somewhat. In addition I hope to move Iran in a more democratic direction to push it towards the United Sates by making the Prime Minister directly elected and introducing two elected chambers of Parliament with differing powers to act as a check to the other. The increase in democracy should head off the Iranian revolution and denying the Iraqis’ an excuse and opportunity to start the Iran-Iraq war. On the Foreign relations I’d like to improve relations with other Arab countries with the possibility of increased trade helping to increase economic growth.

Notable previous player roles: None.

Nation #1: Iraq
Character Name: Ibrahim Talfah
Powerbases (Pick Three): Ba’ath Party Reform, Lower Class, State Security
200 word explanation of your plans: Following the forced resignation of President Al-Bakr, President Talfah plans to change the Ba’ath Party much like Hussein had when he had taken Presidency. Talfah plans to make Iraq more secularized and aimed towards becoming a regional power through internal stability. He plans to reform the public system allowing women to have more rights (allowing equal education and such) as well as creating a sense of national pride within Iraq to help unify all under his regime. Talfah also plans to dramatically improve Iraq’s infrastructure and economy through the use of state and private projects. Talfah also wishes to revitalize the country through historical restoration projects to gain a sense of national unity such as: excavation of artifacts from Babylon and the reconstruction of famous historical, Iraqi buildings and places. Talfah also plans to decrease corruption among government officials to keep the populace trusting of the government.

Internationally, Talfah plans to keep Iraq officially neutral in the Cold War while working closer with the Soviets rather than the Americans. Talfah also plans on supporting similar regimes within other neighboring countries. In particular Talfah plans on pressing Iranian relations in the name of a more democratic and popular regime within Iran.

Player ID: Linnea
Notable previous player roles: None yet -- I'm new to Qpawn :)

Nation #1: Finland
Character Name: Linnea Miikkulainen
Powerbases (Pick Three): Centre-SKDL (Center/Left), Centre-SDP Coalition (Center/Center-Left), Middle Class
200 word explanation of your plans:
Finland's geographical position has always been uneasy. Back in mediæval and early modern days when Sweden was a world power, we were the Swedish Empire's frontier zone, right on the Russian border.
Once Sweden was forced back, we became a Grand Duchy, within the Russian Empire.
After achieving our independence, we merely found ourselves caught again, this time (just like Poland) right between the German sphere of influence and the Russian.
In this tenuous location, we need to do whatever we can to preserve the future of our nation. Of the two superpowers of the world of 1969, the USSR remains right next door to us, while the USA is distant and remote, across multiple seas and an ocean. It's clear which one is more salient to our nation's future, and should be kept happy as the cornerstone of our foreign policy.

Domestically, the scene is quieter. Cultural changes and new social ideas are indeed washing over our nation just like they are the rest of the world, but significantly more peacefully here than elsewhere; may it please remain so.
Therefore, let's take this time and work toward securing our financial future, by paying down our national debt.
Although times are good right now -- we're even in an operating surplus as it stands, and the debt furthermore isn't that large anyway -- it is wise to be prepared and ready to respond in case any unexpected troubles arise. By devoting much of this surplus to paying down our debt, our beautiful nation will be able to face the unknown future on an even sounder financial footing. If we can get rid of a large portion, or better yet all, of this burden now, this will free up cash for bigger public works projects and lifestyle fulfillment efforts in the future.
Best of all, every bit of debt paid off, brings us one step closer to the glorious day when we will be able to expel the IMF and World Bank parasite-vultures from our nation once and for all.

Finland was required to pay reparations to the USSR after the war, to a great extent in the form of heavy machinery and ships. This, ironically, resulted in helping to develop our nation's manufacturing industry. The reparations period is fortunately over, but let's resume trading such manufactured goods to the USSR in exchange for oil and other energy. (Foresight: doing so will greatly help to insulate us from the upcoming 1973 energy crisis.) Joining Comecon would also help in doing this, and in other ways too. (In real life, Finland became an observer in Comecon in 1973.)

Notable previous player roles: I played one time as Norway ~2 years ago, but I should be considered as newb

Nation #1: Spain
Character Name: Manuel Fraga
Powerbases (Pick Three): Falange - Reform, Bussiness, USA-NATO
200 word explanation of your plans:
Having been out of the autharchism for almost a decade, Spain has grown economically, thanks to new bussiness plans, opening to the commerce, and specially tourism. Following a septic shock, Franco had been in comma for a week, so the minister Manuel Fraga has been called to occupy his duties until the Generalissimo is able to perform them again. Being a bussinessman in the technocratic falangist government, and having been approved by the American ambassador to Spain, Fraga looks willing to introduce reforms if this can benefit the economy. The church power can be reduced if this is going to bring extra bucks to the budget. The army can have a lesser share if we can make more jobs out of it. We could loosen our oppresive grip is this is going to attract foreign investments and tourism, and we can even tollerate those provincian catalans if we can get Barcelonese burgeoise support (and money) in exchange for that. Of course, communism is going to be prosecuted and we will be supporting USA on everything, if they know how to pay this support...

Notable previous player roles: This round I have played Tsai Ing-Wen, Andrew Robb and Ramiro Valdez but I have been playing since the 2000's round.

Nation #1: Turkey
Character Name: Cevdet Sunay
Powerbases (Pick Three): Military (Tradition), Business, USA/NATO
200 word explanation of your plans: My first major goal is to support the peaceful formation of an independent Turkish Cypriot Republic as a solution to the segregation of Turkish Cypriots into many armed enclaves within the island due to attacks from the Greek Cypriot Government seeking union with Greece. Currently Turkey is eniterly relied on to support the enclaves with medical supplies and other essentials. If the independence is recognised I will push for very strong relations. Domestically I will try to further Westernise Turkey, adhering strongly to the secular state system. The Westernisation hints at my general foreign policy of being very pro NATO/Western Europe. I will strengthen the military, particularly the navy which is playing to Turkey's strengths as a strategic naval position. As a longer term goal I will increase the sense of patriotism in Turkey, playing down "Kurdish" as a sub culture within Turkey. I will also further develop the Kurdish regions in terms of schools and hospitals which will allow people living in those regions to feel real benefits from the Turkish Government. This positive approach will be linked with strengthening the police force and the introduction of laws which should make it harder for Kurdish Nationalism to get a foothold. A construction project that I would like to complete is to build a bridge across the Bosporus which would bring significant transportation and economic benefits by linking East and West Turkey.

Nation #1: Pakistan
Character Name: Zulfikar Ali Bhutto
Powerbases (Pick Three): Pakistan People’s Party, Lower Class, Islam
200 word explanation of your plans:

In response to rising dissent against his autocratic rule, President Field Marshal Ayub Khan decides to resign and new elections are held. Zulfikar Ali Bhutto is elected in a wave of popular support, restoring civilian rule to the country.

Bhutto's ideology can be summed up in a statement made upon the foundation of his party, the Pakistani People's Party: "Islam is our faith, democracy is our policy, socialism is our economy. All power to the people!"

According to Bhutto, the primary identity of Muslims in the Indian subcontinent is not their language or ethnicity but their religion (in a sociopolitical/cultural sense, not a theocratic one). Bhutto will thus seek to promote a variety of Islam that is in harmony with secular institutions and also one that places an emphasis on the religion's social justice provisions (i.e. Islamic socialism).

Furthemore, Bhutto intends to protect Pakistan's fragile democracy from the might of the military. The constitution will be revised such that military officers will be barred from holding office.

Bhutto recognizes that a fissure is developing between West and East Pakistan, rooted in economic inequity, and has criticised it as unacceptable. He intends to keep Pakistan together through a series of bold reforms, some of which address concerns raised by the Six-Point Plan of Bengali leader Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. These include:

Negotiations with Bengali leader Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, whose Awami League gained a massive majority in East Pakistan
A semi-presidential system in which the President and Prime Minister share power; the President must be West Pakistani and the Prime Minister must be East Pakistani
Universal adult Franchise; one-man, one vote for the first time since Pakistan's independence
Maintaining the single-currency system, but with constitutional protections to prevent capital flight from East to West
A decentralised, federal system; the federal government deals with defence and foreign affairs, the rest being devolved
States gather all revenue; federal government receives a portion to pay its expenses
Requirements that money be invested equitably in West and East
The balance of officers in the Pakistani military will be shifted to include more Bengalis, especially in East Pakistan

Internationally, Bhutto seeks closer ties with moderate Islamic nations, seeking a renaissance in the Islamic world through the promotion of the Islamic Republic as the ideal rather than a monarchy or other autocratic structure. As regards the Sino-Soviet split, he intends to hedge his bets and first try to trigger a thaw in relations with the Soviet Union before further expanding relations with China, if possible convincing the Soviet leadership to cease favouring India. While a nationalist and uncompromising in his adherence to the Two-Nation Theory, Bhutto will seek to negotiate with India with the aim of thawing relations. One programme will be a treaty in which the two states agree not to develop nuclear weapons.
